The last weekend in August is always my favourite weekend of the summer because it’s THE PEACH FESTIVAL. Every year, Hamilton (or if you want to get specific, Stoney Creek) hosts a festival that is entered around the most delicious fruit that comes into season around that time – peaches! This year marked the 48th year of the peach festival, having been around since 1967.
Why do I love this festival so much? I love peaches! And I love me a peach sundae which I believe is the highlight of this festival. However, there is so much to do at the festival! There is a midway, a food court boasting multiple food tents catering to different palates, an arts and crafts alley which showcases different artisans selling their own merchandise, an entertainment stage that features handfuls of local talent, a car show, and a pageant!
This year, I went solo because none of my friends could go during the day (booooo) and I absolutely NEEDED a peach sundae. Let me tell you, finding parking is always a disaster, but I managed to find a spot just down the road! It was so hot out, I thought I was going to melt on my walk over, but I stopped at a lemonade stand where the cutest little girls were selling lemonade for $1!
Once inside, I stopped to take a look at some of the cars in the car show and there were some cute, little, old cars! The truck with the market on the back was my favourite. Next, I made a beeline to the sundae tent and waited (im)patiently in line for what felt like forever. Next thing I knew, I had a delicious peach sundae in my hand and I could not eat it fast enough. I then walked around the arts & crafts alley and made my way over to the pie stand to get a freshly-baked peach pie. But as my luck would see it, they sold out as I was next in line :(. If you live in the area and haven’t been to the peach festival, I would definitely recommend it if only to get a peach sundae or a fresh-baked pie (if you arrive early enough).
