Today marks the 1 year anniversary of the release of Taylor’s 1989 and the record is still KILLING it. 1989 is the fifth album EVER to spend the entire year in the Billboard 200’s Top 10. This album was a major turning point for Taylor musically as it marked her first FULL album in pop music and it certified and solidified her as a major pop-star. 1989 was everything that her fans were expecting and more. She took her songwriting abilities and her musicality and her vocals to an entirely different level and I think she was able to reach out to a larger audience through this record.
Her 1989 tour is one for the books. I went to the show in Toronto at the beginning of the month and let me tell you, it was MIND BLOWING. That would have been the 4th Taylor concert I have been to and they just keep getting better and better. Her concerts have featured the likes of Lisa Kudrow, Keith Urban, Karlie Kloss, and a whole slew of her other famous friends. Her album has been the centre of many covers all over YouTube and resounded so deeply with Ryan Adams that he did a cover of the ENTIRE album which you can check out here.
To mark the one year anniversary of 1989, Taylor posted an exclusive acoustic performance of Out of the Woods. This performance was from the closing of her Grammy Museum exhibit and it is stunning! Her vocals, her acoustic take on such an originally heavily synthesized track is just haunting and moving. It takes the song to another place in your soul and it is just entrancing. Check it out below!
