I have a bad travel bug. I am always looking to go somewhere new and exciting, however, I have a regular 9-5 job like everyone else and I am not looking to quit anytime soon. I envy the people who save up money and quit their jobs to travel the world, but I am not one of those people. So, I came up with a few ways to squash the travel bug without actually traveling.
Read a book.
My favourite way to escape. When you read a book, you imagine new worlds and new scenarios that usually would never play out in your real life. When you read a book, you temporarily forget about your own life and are transported into someone else’s.
Blog about your previous travels! Reminiscing of everywhere you have been makes you realize how lucky you are to have gone where you have gone. Thinking back on your travels may make you long to be there again, but it seems to do the trick in terms of the travel bug. Also, you could read up on other people’s blogs! My favourite travel blogger World of Wanderlust is who I turn to when I need a dose of world travels.
Watch a movie.
You want to travel to Rome? Watch the Lizzie McGuire movie. Australia? Watch Our Lips are Sealed. Thailand? Watch The Beach. Like books, movies transport you into someone else’s life and scenery.
Plan your dream vacation.
My FAVOURITE thing to do when I need to squash the travel bug (besides reading) is to plan dream vacations. I look up trips as if I have every intention of following through with it but, obviously, don’t actually go through with it. My dream vacations are luxurious and can only be attained by winning the lottery (Antarctica I’m referring to you). You may think that this would make the travel bug worse, however, dreaming of travels gives you something to work towards.
